2018 AACA National Membership Meeting

NC Region at the National Membership Meeting _ Philadelphia, PA

By Virginia Wright

Many NC Region members attended the  2018, 82nd AACA Annual Membership Meeting in Philadelphia, PA on February 8-10, 2018. Former First Lady, Fran Oakes, rode with us (Tom, Sean and Ginger Wright) to attend the meeting and participate in the National Awards Banquet. The Sheraton Hotel/Convention Center in Philadelphia plays host to this event was filled to capacity (mostly due to the Philadelphia Eagles having won the Super Bowl and the following celebration). There was plenty to do.  This was the third time we have represented New River Chapter at the meeting and the first time without SNOW.

We attended several interesting seminars plus we spent a lot of time in the Trade Show area. In the following pictures you will see some of the things that are a part of this very well organized convention. Note, the National Awards Banquet was like attending the Academy Awards… Only the “Cars” are the Stars and the owners get to collect their Oscars/Awards. As each recipient was recognized, a large screen picture was shown and a short bio was announced. It is a Red Carpet event complete with a reception that includes a string quartet and a cash bar. Our 1936 25/30 Rolls Royce received the Foo Dog award. We were very happy to get this prestigious award for our car. Tom’s sisters also attended the Banquet and remarked what a great family oriented organization Antique Automobile Club of America is.

2017 Hillsborough Holiday Tour

Hillsborough Holiday Tour December , 2017

By Bill Cox

The Hillsborough Holiday Tour was held on December 10th and the AACA was a big part of it. The local Chamber of Commerce holds an annual home tour where they decorate some of the historic houses with period Christmas decorations and several of them have either music or skits portraying the history of Hillsborough, the state and the nation. There is a charge to enter and there was a train trolley and horse carriage ride.

Hillsborough is a town that played significant parts in the American Revolution as well as other wars or historical events. Many of the homes and structures date back to the 18th century and are preserved very well. This year, the Chamber was raising funds for the new Vietnam War memorial in Orange County so they had homes from each war era on the tour. Additionally, we were asked to provide vehicles from these periods to represent what time was like for families during each war.

The Alamance Region and the NC Region both participated by providing antique vehicles sitting in front of each house to add to the atmosphere and they were a big hit. I enjoyed the music in a couple of locations and was able to see one of the skits. Otherwise, I was busy getting vehicles in place.

Thanks to all those who were able to participate… if we are invited again, watch for announcements on our webpage or Facebook page.

Happy Motoring!

Bill Cox, President, NC Region
