1968 California Special Mustang
This 1968 California Special Mustang was totally restored from the ground up in a little over a year. Its first show was the 1994 Mustang 30th Anniversary Celebration held at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The car won enough Gold Awards to retire from Mustang Club of America competition in 1999. At present, it has reached AACA Grand National Senior status. The GT/CS was built in the San Jose Assembly Plant as a marketing promotion to boost California sales. It is a 1968 coupe body with Shelby parts and its own unique stripes and script lettering. It is powered by a 289 2V coupled with a C4 automatic transmission. The owners feel very “special” to own one of the 4,025 production units. As a “horse of a different color” they enjoy sharing its history with others.
