This trophy is awarded in memory of Dave Hinkle who was one of the Region’s first members and President in 1957 and then again in 1964 & 1965. Dave Hinkle was very active in all aspects in the North Carolina Region. It was through his time and efforts that memberships more than doubled, the Region started taking in chapters, and hosted its first National meet in Chapel Hill in 1970. When Dave Hinkle was stricken with cancer, his love for the North Carolina Region and the AACA did not falter; he was still “active until his death. The Region, wanting to keep that spirit alive which Dave Hinkle started, established the memorial award to be given to any Region member, except the current President, who shows that same spirit. The first recipient was J. D Foust of Raleigh, chairperson of the National meet in Chapel Hill. Flo Hinkle, Dave’s widow, and William Hinkle, his son, presented the first award at the January business meeting held in Greensboro, NC.
