Hello Furnitureland Club Members! We hope 2014 is being good to you! Let’s get started by updating you with 2013-year end events.
Ray and Deborah Haynes ended up their car showing year at the “Hendricks Motor 2013 Christmas for Kids” held on Nov. 23, 23 2013. This benefit for Shriners Hospital was sponsored by Carolina Camaro Association. Ray and Deborah took home a “Top 100” with their 1976 Stingray. This Stingray is a new show car for Ray and Deborah in addition to their 1992 Corvette LT1. They attended around 28 car shows events in 2013 and most were benefits for cancer related illnesses and for children. Good Luck with your car showing hobby Ray and Deborah!

They attended the Tom Mack “30th Annual Charlotte in January“ show. This car show, swap meet and auction was held at the Metrolina Expo Center. The weather was rainy but, most all the swap meet merchandise was inside for this event. Other Furnitureland Club members at this event were Bill and Cathy Sykes. Larry said “it was a little damp, but and otherwise enjoyable day.

These classes were interesting and informative.
Saturday January 18, 2014 – the Alamance Region’s first program we attended for the day was the Car Restoration Class. Their Project was the restoration of a 1963 Austin Healy of a 1963 Austin Healy. This car was donated and given to a local charity. The car was raffled off several times and each time was re-donated and ended up making quite a bit of money for charity.
The next class was about Ethanol Gas. The class was Ehtanol and then Old Car Hobby )and your lawn mower!”. This gas is a problem and will affect all of us-not just the antique car hobby. This is a topic that I reported on in the July/August 2013 edition of Furnitureland news. You may want to refer to that edition for more information.
At noon , a very nice lunch buffet was served and the Alamance Region provided fun entertainment during our luncheon break . At 2 PM the final event of the day was the NC Region Annual Business Meeting , taking care of old business and new business. Next the Region Chapters received their awards for articles sent to the Region News. I received two awards: One for having an article in every edition and one for creative writing about or club events, members, and activities. Thank you Furnitureland Club Members for giving all the information that made this possible.
And a big congratulations to Furnitureland Club President Jack Harris, Vice-President of the NC Region for 2014.
As I write and finish this article, the antique cars and show cars are safely covered up in their cozy garage… There is still snow on the ground and a low temperature early this morning of 3 degrees. So—see you after the Spring Thaw!
